Monroe falls in overtime

MONROE - Seth Lindsay scored two goals, but the Monroe boys hockey co-op team lost a nonconference game 4-3 in overtime to Chequamegon/Phillips Saturday.

Monroe's Hayden Roth scored a short-handed goal on an assist by Cade Janecke to give the Cheesemakers a 1-0 lead at the 13 minutes, 23 second mark in the first period.

After Chequamegon tied the game at 1 early in the second period, the Cheesemakers answered with Lindsay scoring on a pass from Riley Jones to give the Cheesemakers a 2-1 lead. Chequamegon scored two goals in the final 43 seconds to take a 3-2 lead.

Lindsay scored a game-tying goal on assists from Janecke and Charlie Harris to tie the game at 3. Chequamegon's Toivo Kivimaa scored the game-winning goal with 26 seconds into overtime.

Cheesemaker goal keeper Heath Bear had 33 saves. Chequamegon outshot Monroe 37-35. With the loss, Monroe drops to 2-9 overall.
