Raiders claim Capitol South Conference

The Sugar River wrestling team won the Capitol South conference with dual wins over Cambridge, Marshall and Waterloo on Thursday, Jan. 12.

WATERLOO — The Sugar River wrestling team captured the Capitol South with dual victories over Cambridge, Marshall and Waterloo on Thursday, Jan. 12.

In the Raiders win over Cambridge (55-18), Sugar River benefited from four forfeits. Four wrestlers pinned their opponents — Brennan Keyes, Cayson Helwig, Ryker Swenson and Garrett Pauli — while the Raiders received another four points from a major decision and three from a sudden victory.

Against Marshall (47-33), Sugar River won four matches by forfeit, again. With pins from Blake Endres, Keyes and Alex Zielinski the Raiders earned another 18 points. The final five came from Swenson’s 15-0 tech fall.

In the team’s third dual against Waterloo (57-30), five matches were decided by forfeit, with three of them in favor of Sugar River. The Raiders also edged the Pirates in pins 5-3 with one decision. 

Carson Loshaw, Isaac Erb, Keyes, Zielinski, Pauli and Endres went 3-0 on the day.
