The Rural Fire Department had been notified in January to vacate its new firehouse location by April 15, however, the Monroe Common Council may change the zoning of the building to allow continued use. MONROE — A local farmer needed help putting out a combine fire earlier this week.

At approximately 4:59 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, the Monroe Rural Fire District was called by Green County dispatch to a report of a combine on fire on Wis. 69 near County P and Bethel Road in the Town of Clarno.

Engine 1 was en route in under six minutes, the department said, with Brush 4 and Tender 8 shortly behind. Upon arrival, crews located the combine on fire in a cornfield, with active fire showing on the rear of the machine. With the first arriving units on scene, crews quickly extinguished the fire and brought it under control in less than 15 minutes. No injuries were reported.

In all, Monroe Rural Fire District responded with a brush truck, tan engine, two tenders, and a utility truck with a UTV. A total of 18 firefighters responded to the call.
