To the Editor:
We are going to vote for David Crowley for governor on Nov. 3 because he’s proven he knows how to govern in a way that will benefit the people of Wisconsin. Crowley has a solid, successful background as Milwaukee County Executive. For six years he has kept property taxes below the state average while increasing affordable housing and reducing homelessness. He fixed a long-standing county pension crisis and oversaw major capital projects that benefit all county residents. In a time of great political polarization, Crowley has demonstrated an ability to work with Republicans as well as Democrats on behalf of the people, regardless of their political affiliation.
By contrast, Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany has voted in lockstep with the disastrous policies of President Donald Trump, including efforts to reverse the results of the 2020 election that President Joe Biden won. We believe anyone who denied a fair election, and supported a violent mob that ransacked our Capitol as part of an effort to prevent the legitimate, peaceful transfer of power, has disqualified himself from serving in any governmental role. Rep. Tiffany was the only member of Wisconsin’s congressional delegation, Republican or Democratic, who signed onto a legal brief supporting a lawsuit that tried to overturn the results of the election in Wisconsin and several other states. American democracy depends on elected officials who will accept the results of fair elections, even when their candidate, or their party, doesn’t win. Tom Tiffany has shown he can’t be trusted.
