Brodhead-Juda gets big win vs. Clinton

NEW GLARUS — Lake Mills blanked New Glarus-Monticello 35-0 Friday in Week Two.

Lake Mills (1-1) took a 7-0 lead with 1:31 left in the first quarter on a 12-yard pass from Adam Moen to Matt Johnson. The L-Cats increased the advantage to 14-0 by the half when Moen hit Johnson on a 20-yard strike with 3:55 left to play.

Moen finished the game 17 of 28 passing for 189 yards and three touchdowns with only one interception. Moen also had 95 yards rushing on 17 carries and a score.

Connor Siegenthaler was 11 of 24 passing for 147 yards and four interceptions for the Glarner Knights (1-1), including a devastating pick-six in the fourth quarter moments after Lake Mills had already scored a touchdown, pushing the game to its final score.

The Knights had just 18 rushing yards on 14 carries.

New Glarus-Monticello hosts Columbus (0-2) in Week Three.


Pecatonica-Argyle 43, Ithaca 0

ITHACA — The Vikings used a 22-point second quarter to run away with a non-conference win Friday.

Mitch Flannery opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 6-yard touchdown run. In the second, quarterback Colton Schraepfer hit Lane Busser from 43-yards out for a score. Schraepfer also had 30- and 14-yard touchdown passes to Busser in the second, and the Vikings led 28-0 going into halftime. 

In the third quarter, Clay Ritschard had touchdown runs of 20 and 3 yards.

Schraepfer finished the night 11 of 18 passing for 202 yards and three touchdowns and added 107 yards rushing on 15 carries. Ritschard had 79 rushing yards on 14 carries.

The Vikings (2-0, 1-0 Six Rivers) host Benton-Scales Mound (1-1, 1-1) this week.


Black Hawk 14, Potosi-Cassville 7

POTOSI — In a battle of preseason favorites, the Warriors gave themselves the upper hand. Both teams were ranked after Week One wins in the Wisconsin AP Prep Poll (Black Hawk 6, Potosi-Cassville 11). 

The Chieftains (1-1) got on the board first when fullback Colin Esser punched it in from 1-yard out. The Warriors (2-0) answered with Mitchell Quinn moments later.

The deciding score of the game came on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Lovelace to Rece Shelton.

Offense was hard to come by for both teams, as Black Hawk had just 62 rushing yards on 32 attempts and converted just the one pass. Colby Argall led the way with 11 carries for 42 yards.

Will Bierman was 11 of 23 passing for 98 yards for Potosi-Cassville, which had just 26 rushing yards on 33 carries as a team.

Black Hawk hosts New Lisbon (2-0) Friday in a nonconference game in Week Three.

Edgerton 25, Evansville-Albany 12

EVANSVILLE — Despite taking a two-score lead in the second quarter, the Blue Devils gave it all up in the second half.

Ty Severson threw a 6-yard score to Carson Hill to open the scoring and then Matt Kostroun ran in another from 36 yards to give Evansville-Albany a 12-0 lead in the second quarter.

Edgerton (1-1) would score in the third on a fumble recovery in the end zone, and then Jaden Johnson ran three more scores to close out the game.

Johnson ended the night with 267 yards rushing and another 138 through the air on 8 of 21 passes for a total of 405 yards of offense on 41 touches. Devin Jorgenson had 102 yards on the ground on 15 carries and another 66 yards on three receptions for Edgerton.

Severson was 10 of 22 passing for 94 yards and had 24 on the ground for the Blue Devils (0-2), which got 68 yards rushing from Kostroun. Hill had 63 yards on the ground and 68 through the air.


Brodhead-Juda 20, Clinton 6

BRODHEAD — The Cardinals improved to 2-0 in the Rock Valley after taking care of Clinton (0-2). Last season the Cougars swept the conference and finished 11-1, but graduated 15 of 17 all-conference players.

Brodhead-Juda, which went just 2-7 a season ago, travel to Edgerton this week. Beloit Turner, McFarland and East Troy are the only other teams unbeaten in the Rock Valley through the first two weeks.


Lake Country Lutheran 42, Darlington 0

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds lost to Lake Country Lutheran, the third-ranked team in the state from Hartland. 

The Lightning (2-0) got two touchdowns from Zander Mueller and four from Dane Vance. Lake Country Lutheran went up 7-0 with 3:10 left in the first quarter. The Lightning scored three more touchdowns in the second — all on runs — and added one score each in the third and fourth.

Vance finished with 208 yards on the ground on 19 carries. Lake Country Lutheran had 321 rushing yards and another 28 passing. Darlington had 108 total yards of offense, led by Kolbe Ubersox’s 67 yards rushing yards.

Darlington (1-1) travels to rival Cuba City (0-2) for the SWAL opener this Friday.
