EAST TROY — Monroe opened Rock Valley Conference play with a close 4-3 loss to eighth-ranked East Troy on Sept. 3. The Cheesemakers got wins at No. 1 and 2 singles, as well as at No. 3 doubles. Ryann Dahlmann (1-singles) defeated Avorie Murphy 6-2, 6-3. Kaya Holverson won at 2-singles 6-3, 6-1 over Megan Meeks. At 3-doubles, Telina Gratz and Paizley Kundert were winners 6-4, 6-2.

The two schools played to three super tiebreakers, all falling East Troy’s way. Monroe’s Jade Tran fell at No. 3 singles 4-6, 6-3, 10-6. Caedyn Blackburn and Elise McKenzie came up short at 1-doubles, 4-6, 7-5, 11-9, and Bralyn Liphart and Ella Mortimer were a hair shy at 2-doubles, 6-3, 6-7(3), 10-3.

“We were in a great position to take the dual, but unfortunately dropped 3 super tiebreakers which made the difference,” Monroe coach Matt Bordner said. “We came out to a fast start, but give East Troy a lot of credit for never quitting and making every point tough. I’m excited to keep working with our crew and continue to make a strong push for the rest of our conference season.”

Delavan Quad

Monroe took part in the Delavan Quad on Sept. 5, nearly sweeping the field. Monroe defeated Shoreland Lutheran and Catholic Central 7-0 each, and defeated host Delavan-Darien 6-1.

Bordner mixed up his lineups, allowing seven different girls to play a singles match. All seven won. Eight players took part in doubles matches, all winning at least once.

Monroe improves to 9-2 on the season overall. The Cheesemakers play on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at Janesville Craig in a newly-added dual, then host Big Foot on Sept. 10.
