MINERAL POINT - Two Black Hawk-Darlington wrestlers qualified for the state tournament at the WIAA Division 3 Mineral Point sectional Saturday.

Black Hawk-Darlington senior Zach Wolf (42-3) at heavyweight won a sectional championship. Wolf defeated Brookwood's Ike Sletten 2-0 in a quarterfinal match. In the semifinals, Wolf pinned Waterloo's Dalton Utz in 2 minutes, 20 seconds. Wolf then pinned Cashton's Brandon Klimek in 17 seconds in the title match.

The other state qualifier for the Warrior-Redbirds was junior Taylor Evenstad at 220 pounds. The top three wrestlers from each weight class advance to state, and Evenstad (32-8) took third place. He pinned Poynette's Wesley Sandstrom in 3:25 in a quarterfinal match. New Lisbon's Derek Medearis edged him 3-1 in the semifinals. He won a wrestleback when De Soto's Kole Jenson forfeited. Evenstad then pinned Cashton's Dylan Campton in 1:27 to seal third place. He didn't get a chance to wrestle for second place due to an earlier loss to Medearis.

Evenstad will wrestle Spring Valley's Ethan Hofacker (37-5) at state Thursday. Since Wolf was a sectional champion, he received a first-round bye and won't wrestle until Friday. Wolf will wrestle the winner of Markesan senior Matt Stensrud (42-4) and Ladysmith senior Michael Jansen (15-12).
