Beloit Turner sweeps Brodhead

BRODHEAD - The Brodhead baseball team lost a doubleheader to Beloit Turner on Saturday.

Beloit Turner beat the Cardinals 9-2 in the first game. Turner pounded out 16 hits and scored five runs in the first inning.

Brodhead's Kyle Murray pitched two innings and gave up five earned runs. Michael Peterson pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief and gave up eight runs on seven hits. He struck out three and walked three.

Turner completed the sweep with a 17-7 victory in the second game. The Cardinals came back from a 7-0 deficit by scoring three runs in the fourth. Brodhead cut Turner's lead to 10-7 after scoring four runs in the fifth. Beloit Turner responded with a seven-run sixth.

Brodhead had three players with multi-hit games, including Murray (2-for-3) and Tyler Malcook (2-for-4). Malcook finished the doubleheader 3-for-8.

Malcook pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits. He struck out two and walked three.

Brodhead will play at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday at Evansville.
