Avalanche girls win championship

MONROE - The Avalanche girls hockey team took first place in the Avalanche Shootout Tournament, knocking off the Green Bay Bobcats 2-1 on Sunday.

The Avalanche played two games leading up to the championship game. On Saturday, they defeated the U12 DC Diamonds 7-1. Scoring for the Avalanche were Brooke Teubert (hat trick), Ally Einbeck (two), Alyssa Knauf and Ava Lothes.

Earning assists were Lothes, Haley Knauf (two), Teubert, Lilah Bauer, Rebekah Rath and Anika Einbeck. Avalanche goalie Sarah Nicholas recorded eight saves.

The Avalanche shut out Viroqua U10 in the second game on Saturday, 8-0. Scoring for the Avalanche were Teubert (two goals), Anika Einbeck, Bauer, Alyssa Knauf, Rath, Ally Einbeck and Bauer. Earning assists were Rath, Ally Einbeck and Haley Knauf.

In the championship game, Haley Knauf opened the scoring a goal in the second period, assisted by Ally Einbeck and Rath. The Bobcats responded with a goal in the third period. With 59 seconds left, Alyssa Knauf scored the winning goal with assists from Teubert and Ally Einbeck.

Nicholas recorded 12 saves, and the Avalanche had 22 shots on goal.
