Wis. 69 detour markers revised

MONTICELLO - The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has designated County Trunk J as the detour for Wisconsin 69 north for the bridge replacement on that highway, located two miles south of Monticello.

The starting date was June 29, with a tentative completion date of August 28.

The signs on Wis. 69, north of Monroe, indicate "Road Closed/Bridge Out, 7 1/2 Miles Ahead," and the public is encouraged to use the official detour on County J.

The department initially placed "No Thru Truck" signs on County Trunk N.

The detour signage was not properly posted for truck traffic; the transportation department and Green County Highway Department were contacted to address this matter.

On July 7, appropriate informational signs were added on Wisconsin 81 and County C indicating "No Truck Traffic in Excess of 10 Ton" and were placed in both directions from County N, warning trucks not to turn on County N between Wis. 81 and County C.

Truck drivers are reminded that many township roads are posted as Class B Highways, and trucks over 10 tons that travel on County N are in violation and operators are subject to a significant fine.
