Monroe School Board: Jan. 15, 2014

In a Monroe school board meeting Monday, Jan. 13, the board:

• Approved a $11,900 contract with Focused Fitness for data collection associated with a $953,000 three-year Carol M. White PEP grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The PEP grants are awarded to school districts across the country to bolster K-12 physical education programs and support physical fitness, wellness, teacher training and provide equipment.

• Approved a $30,600 three-year contract with Randy Knuth to be a quantitative evaluator for the PEP grant the district received.

• Approved the three-year contract for $18,750 for the purchase of the Welnet Data System from Focused Fitness to keep track of PEP grant data.

• Established the order for how names will appear on the ballot for the school board election April 1. There are three seats up for election with four vying for board positions. The order on the ballot will be Larry Eakins, Michael Boehme, Jim Plourde and Brian Keith.

• Approved the hiring of Jeff Moorman as a Monroe Public Library specialist.

• Accepted the resignation of Carol Nenneman as a Monroe Middle School aide. Nenneman worked in the district for 14 years.

• Approved an anonymous $2,500 donation to the district's gifted and talented scholarship fund.
