Monroe AD cited for hit-and-run

MONROE - Monroe High School Athletic Director David B. Hirsbrunner, 45, Monroe, was cited for hit-and-run to an attended vehicle and operating left of center after he reportedly hit a semi tanker in New Glarus then fled to Monticello early Sunday morning, Jan. 19.

Deputies and Monticello police responded to an accident at 2:28 a.m. Sunday in the N7400 block of Wis. 69 in New Glarus Township. According to a news release from Green County Sheriff's Department, Jason D. Hesselbacher, 39, Lena, was driving a semi tanker northbound on Wis. 69 when a southbound SUV operated by Hirsbrunner traveled left of center and hit the rear portion of the tanker.

Hesselbacher reported the crash after Hirsbrunner fled the scene southbound. Hirsbrunner was later located by Monticello Police in the disabled vehicle behind a closed business in the Village of Monticello.

Hesselbacher, Hirsbrunner and Hirsbrunner's passenger, who was not identified, were uninjured. Both vehicles received moderate damage.

Hirsbrunner was released pending court.

Hirsbrunner also serves as Monroe's boys cross country coach and previously coached boys track.
