Drivers identified in fatal crash
Fatal Car Crash

MONROE  — The Green County Sheriff’s Office released the names of the drivers involved in a crash that left a man dead Sept. 29 near Brodhead.

Robert Brown, 23, Lena, was the driving a black 2012 Honda Civic southbound on County T. The lone occupant in his vehicle, Brown failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of County T and Wis. 81. His vehicle was struck by a westbound 2024 Honda CRV SUV driven by Nicole Fehringer, 47, Monroe.

“Both vehicles sustained severe disabling damage along with airbag deployment and were towed from the scene,” an Oct. 2 press release from the sheriff’s office said. “At the time of the collision, Fehringer was properly restrained and sustained non life-threatening injuries. Brown was also properly restrained and sustained fatal injuries.”

Fehringer was transported to a local hospital for treatment. She was the lone occupant in her vehicle.

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene by the Green County Coroner’s Office. The Green County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Rock County Sheriff’s Office (crash reconstruction unit) and the Green County Highway Department (traffic control). The roadway remained closed for approximately four hours.

The crash, which is Green County’s third traffic fatality of 2024, remains under investigation.

The intersection is known for its danger and is the home to dozens of accidents from over the years. There were 13 crashes reported there from 2015-19, including one fatality. Failure to yield or failure to stop right-angle crashes were the cause of 62% of the accidents there. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation also has preliminary plans for a roundabout redesign, with construction anticipated for 2026.
