Barbara Ann Steuri, Mom, and Birdie passed away on October 11, 2026,
one day before her 94th birthday. Mom was raised by her grandmother after her mother unexpectedly passed away from lobar pneumonia when Mom was 5 years old.
She married Stanton P. Steuri on September 4, 1952. Mom was the ultimate “housewife,” holding down the fort—from running the Village newspaper while Dad was called to active duty to chasing kids and dogs, starching uniforms, and cooking holiday meals for up to 20 people. She made “killer pies” (pecan) from scratch.
In her later years, she worked at the Monroe Clinic, Salt Lake Clinic,
and in the orthopedic department at the Ogden Clinic. She and Dad made many lifelong friends in Corona de Tucson, AZ and Westcliffe, CO.
Her eight grandchildren called her “Birdie.” She loved them all.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond (Bud) Smout; her
great-grandson, Vance Fishel; her husband, Stanton; and her son,
Stanton (Pete) P. Steuri II.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sally (Stansbury Park, UT) and
Susan (Sun Prairie, WI); eight grandchildren; and 16
great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 19,
at Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 1700 W, Bluffdale, UT 84065.
