Monroe Police

MONROE — On Aug. 5:

●  Officers responded at 10:28 p.m. to the 2000 block of 11th Avenue for a report of a vehicle that left the roadway, hit a tree and landscaping blocks and then continued south. It was located at a nearby residence. Carson A. Scheidegger, 27, Monroe, was arrested on a first-offense charge of operating while intoxicated. He was cited for operating with a prohibited blood-alcohol concentration and failure to notify police of an accident. His vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage. He was released pending court.

On Aug. 6:

●  No injuries were reported from a two-vehicle crash at 8:24 a.m. on Dunphy Road at Tipperary Road, Town of Albany. James Graves, 77, Albany, was eastbound and missed his turn onto Tipperary Road. He was backing up and backed into an eastbound vehicle operated by Marissa Padulla, 19, Monroe. Both vehicles sustained functional damage. Padulla’s vehicle was towed. No citations were issued.

●  A two-vehicle crash was reported at 1:32 p.m. in the N5300 block of Wis. 104, Town of Albany. Jay Deremo, 60, Janesville, was southbound traveling at a slow speed due to a tractor in front of him and was rear-ended by Jaida Meier, 17, Brodhead, who was traveling with three juvenile passengers. Meier’s vehicle sustained severe damage, with airbag deployment. It was towed. One of the passengers sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention. Deremo’s truck sustained moderate damage. It was towed. Meier was cited for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle. Brodhead police assisted deputies.

●  A rollover crash was reported at 1:38 p.m. in the W3700 block of County C, Town of Mt. Pleasant. Nicholas Johnson, 38, Belleville, was westbound when he failed to negotiate a curve east of County CC. His vehicle reentered the roadway, overcorrected and went into the ditch, then rolled and came to rest on its roof. Johnson sustained minor injuries. His airbags deployed. The vehicle was recovered from the ditch and towed. Johnson was warned for failure to keep a vehicle under control. The Monticello Fire Department and Albany EMS assisted deputies.

On Aug. 8:

●  Luis M. Malone, 19, Waunakee, was taken to a Madison hospital for non-life threatening injuries he sustained in a rollover crash reported at 2:47 a.m. in the N7100 block of Wis. 104, Town of Albany. He was northbound when he fell asleep. The vehicle crossed the center line and entered the west ditch, then returned to the road and proceeded to travel northbound in the southbound lane. It then entered the west ditch again and collided with an embankment, overturned and came to rest. It sustained severe damage, with airbag deployment. It was towed. Malone was arrested on a first-offense charge for operating while under the influence of drugs. He was also cited for inattentive driving, unsafe lane deviation and failure to keep vehicle under control. The Rock County Sheriff’s Office, Evansville and Brooklyn police, Albany EMS and the Albany Fire Department assisted deputies.

●  A person walking in the roadway was reported at 2:50 a.m. in the W5700 block of Iliff Road, Town of Monroe. Responding deputies located an UTV that was involved in a crash in the north ditch. The UTV had collided with a silver Ford, parts of which were found on scene. The UTV sustained damage and was later towed. The driver of the UTV fled the scene and was not located. The driver of the Ford also fled and was not located. It is unknown if anyone involved sustained injuries. The crash remained under investigation.

●  Ronald J. Richards, 63, Albany, was taken by Albany EMS to the Monroe Clinic ER for non-life threatening injuries he sustained in a motorcycle crash reported at 2:30 p.m. in the W2300 block of County C, Town of Brooklyn. He was eastbound when the motorcycle experienced a mechanical failure, causing it to overturn. Richards was ejected. He was not wearing a helmet. The Albany Fire Department assisted deputies.


Green County Sheriff

MONROE — No injuries were reported from a one-vehicle crash at 10:10 a.m. Aug. 4 in the N9100 block of Dohm Drive, Town of Exeter. Nathan O. Widish, 16, Belleville, was eastbound when he left the roadway, struck a mailbox, continued over a driveway and hit a fire number marker. He was arrested on a first-offense charge of operating while under the influence of drugs and cited for inattentive driving. He was released pending court. The vehicle received moderate damage and was removed.

●  No injuries were reported from a one-vehicle crash at 3:38 p.m. Aug. 12 in the Town of Monroe. Wesley G. Winters, 80, South Wayne, was southbound on County J when he failed to stop at the stop sign at Wis. 81. The vehicle collided with a road sign and entered the ditch where it came to rest. The vehicle sustained disabling damage. It was towed. Winters was cited for inattentive driving and failure to stop at a stop sign.

● Crop damage to a corn field was reported at 9:24 a.m. Aug. 13 in the W4400 block of Middle Juda Road, Town of Jefferson. Investigation revealed Vance L. Tracy, 59, Monroe, was westbound when he swerved to miss a deer and lost control on a curve at about 10:30 p.m. the previous night. The vehicle went through the corn field and continued back onto the road. Tracy sustained minor injuries. He was cited for failure to notify police of an accident and for hit-and-run to property adjacent to a highway.

●  Jerome Kennedy, 70, Orfordville, was taken by Albany EMS to a hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained in a motorcycle crash reported at 5:35 p.m. Aug. 15 in the Town of Albany. He was southbound on County F near Wis. 59 when he lost control, crossed into the east ditch and returned to the road, where the motorcycle overturned. He was wearing eye protection but no helmet and was ejected from the motorcycle. He was cited for driving without a valid motorcycle license. Albany police and the Albany Fire Department assisted deputies on scene. 

●  David Hansen, 51, Des Plaines, Illinois, was taken by Green County EMS to a hospital for evaluation of non-life threatening injuries following a motorcycle crash reported at 11:49 a.m. Aug. 16 in the N5100 block of County J, Town of Washington. Hansen failed to negotiate a curve, lost control and slid into the ditch. He was wearing eye protection but no helmet. He was cited for driving too fast for road conditions. The Monticello Fire Department assisted deputies on scene.

●  A vehicle fire was reported at 7:41 a.m. Aug. 17 in the N5200 block of County N, Town of Washington. Joseph Leu, 26, Monroe, was northbound when he noticed smoke coming from the hood of his semi-truck. He pulled to the shoulder, shut down the truck, opened the hood and found flames. He extinguished the flames prior to the arrival of deputies and the Monticello Fire Department. No injuries were reported.

●  No injuries were reported from a utility pole vs. vehicle crash at 3:36 p.m. Aug. 18 in the W5800 block of Advance Road, Town of Clarno. Jaden Clark, 16, Monroe, was eastbound and negotiating a left turn onto Clarno Road, went across the centerline and into the opposite ditch and hit a utility pole. The vehicle sustained disabling damage, with airbag deployment. It was towed. Clark was cited for failure to maintain control of a vehicle.

On Aug. 19:

●  Ashley E. Storms, 28, Brodhead, reported no injuries from a one-vehicle accident at 8:41 a.m. in the W2600 block of Wis. 81, Town of Jefferson. Gravel fell from a truck in front of her and hit the windshield of her vehicle, damaging it to the point it would likely have to be replaced.

●  No injuries were reported from a two-vehicle crash at 8:54 a.m. in the N2900 block of Wis. 81, Town of Monroe. Investigation revealed Joshua J. Hardyman, 37, Monroe, was southbound when he was hit by a northbound vehicle attempting to turn left across traffic. The other driver was Joseph A. Rupprecht, 88, Monroe. Both vehicles sustained functional damage. No citations were issued.


Lafayette County Sheriff

DARLINGTON — A one-vehicle accident was reported at 11:05 p.m. on Bean Street Road, Town of New Diggings. A 2004 Oldsmobile, owned by Maynard F. Heins, 74, Monroe, was located off the road having hit a tree. No occupants were found in or near the vehicle. It sustained severe damage and was towed. The accident remains under investigation.

On July 29:

●  Holly M. Haffele, 40, Shullsburg, reported hitting a deer at 7:28 a.m. on Wis. 11, Town of Benton. Her 2014 Chevrolet sustained minor damage. A deputy assisted.

●  Gratiot Fire and First Response and Green County EMS of Darlington responded at 9:50 a.m. to Wis. 11, Town of Gratiot, for a two-vehicle accident. A 2005 Dodge driven by Bonnie S. Gordon, 37, Shullsburg, was rear-ended by a 2006 Ford driven by Owen C. Huschitt, 17, Browntown. Both vehicles sustained severe damage and were towed. Huschitt was cited for following too closely. 

●  A hit-and-run was reported at 3:59 p.m. Aug. 1 on Lake Road, Town of Fayette. Peter A. Grender, 48, Cambridge, was legally parked in a lot when his 2018 Honda was hit by an unknown vehicle, causing moderate damage.

●  A hit-and-run was reported at 8:22 p.m. Aug. 2 on County I, Town of New Diggings. Sarah K. Yaun, 38, Belmont, was legally parked when her 2015 Dodge was hit by an unknown driver, causing moderate damage.

On Aug. 5:

●  Hannah M. Ritschard, 20, South Wayne, reported hitting a deer at 1:22 a.m. on Andrews Road, Town of Wayne. No injuries were reported. Her 2020 Jeep sustained moderate damage.

●  Non-life threatening injuries were reported from an ATV accident at 4:01 p.m. on County G, Town of Willow Springs. Levi M. Carter, 15, Mineral Point, was eastbound when he lost control of his ATV, causing it to overturn. The 2004 Yamaha sustained moderate damage. Green County EMS of Darlington assisted. Darlington police assisted with traffic control.

●  No injuries were reported from a two-vehicle accident at 8:15 p.m. on Wis. 11 in Shullsburg. Mary L. Stutz, 64, Darlington, was turning off Wis. 11 into a business parking lot when she was hit by a motorcycle operated by David M. Foley, 42, Darlington. Stutz’s 2015 Jeep and Foley’s 1992 Harley Davidson sustained moderate damage. The Shullsburg Fire Department and Shullsburg EMS assisted.

On Aug. 6:  

●  Deputies assisted Darlington police with an accident at 7:12 a.m. on Fayette Road in Darlington. The Darlington Fire Department assisted.

●  No injuries were reported from a two-vehicle accident at 7:43 a.m. on Wis. 23, Town of Willow Springs. Jayne S. Sherer, 48, Platteville, was northbound when she crossed the centerline, hitting a southbound semi-truck operated by Donald D. Johnson, 64, Mineral Point. Sherer’s 2014 GMC and Johnson’s 2009 Volvo received minor damage. Sherer was cited for failure to keep vehicle under control. The Mineral Point Fire Department and Mineral Point EMS assisted on scene.

On Aug. 7:

●  Stephanie J. Weipert, 37, Mineral Point, reported hitting a deer at 1:29 p.m. on Wis. 23, Town of Darlington. Her 2013 Chevrolet sustained minor damage.
