Virgil R. Pick, age 77 of Orangeville, Illinois, died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at his home.

Virgil was born November 6, 1931 in Monroe, the son of Henry H. and Lena (Hofer) Pick.

He attended Green County Normal School and graduated from Monroe High School in 1950.

Virgil farmed all of his life in Clarno Township. He farmed with his nephew, William S. and Sue Pick , from 1981 until he moved to Oneco Township, Stephenson County in 1999. He was proud to receive the Steambank Award from the Green County Conservation District two years in a row.

Virgil was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe and loved spending time with his family.

He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and visiting with friends and neighbors.

He is survived by two brothers, Henry R. (Mary Lou) Pick of Monroe, and William A. (Shirley) Pick of Cedarville, IL; a sister, Arlene Johnson of Janesville; and three nieces and five nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, David Pick; and a brother-in-law, Richard Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, with Rev. John Tabaka of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, followed by a luncheon at the Monroe American Legion Post #84. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A memorial fund will be established in Virgil's name for Grace Lutheran Church.
