Laura A. Ochsner age 96 of Albany, died Saturday, May 25, 2013 at her home. Laura was born in Adams Township, Green County on November 13, 1916 the daughter of Charles and Anna (Kleinschay) Derendinger and attended Dividing Ridge Country School and Monroe High School. While attending Monroe High School, Laura worked after school for her aunts Rose and Ida Derendinger in their hemstitching shop in the Goetz Building.
Like so many other young couples of that era, Laura met her future husband, Fritz at Monroe's Turner Hall. Laura and Fred both loved to dance and they were married on October 13, 1941 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe. Laura and Fritz first lived in Twin Grove before moving to the Newman Cheese Factory near Juda. In 1953 they moved to the Maple Leaf Cheese factory near Albany. Laura was the perfect partner for Fritz in the factory. They moved to Albany in 1968 and retired in 1981. Fritz passed away in 1996.
Laura kept journals about everyday events for much of her life. In recent years she liked to reminisce and write about the "Olden Days" about growing up in rural Green County. She was a lifelong member of St. John's United Church of Christ, former 4-H Leader, and enjoyed volunteering at Albany Thrift Store. Laura was comforted in her last days by her family, friends, and "Maggie" the cat.
Surviving are sons, Ron (Paula) Ochsner of Gales Ferry, CT & John Ochsner of rural Monroe, WI; brother, Calvin Derendinger of Belleville, WI; grandsons, Todd (Anne) Ochsner & children, Lenee & Caleb and Jason Ochsner & children, Eric & Nathan. She was predeceased by her husband, Fritz Ochsner; Parents; brothers, Paul, Walter, & Robert Derendinger; and sisters, Marie Rosa & Wilma Wenger.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Drive & N. 18th Avenue in Monroe.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Thursday, May 30, 2013 at St. John's United Church of Christ 1724-14th Street in Monroe with Rev. Tiff Bates officiating. Private burial later in Hillcrest Cemetery in Albany, WI.
Memorials may be directed to St. John's United Church of Christ or a Charity of one's choice in Laura's memory.
