Charles W. Huber age 73 of Monroe, died peacefully at his home in the presence of his loving and devoted wife on Saturday, December 21, 2013. He was born March 24, 1940, the son of Charles and Arlene (Schultz) Huber. Charlie married his high school sweetheart, Lucy Ann Sowl, on July 10, 1960.
Charlie was born on the family farm in Jordan Township where he and Lucy farmed together until they moved to town in 1988. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1957 and served in the National Guard from 1956-1961. Charlie also ran his sharpening business on the farm, The Sharp it Shop, where "You dull it. We sharp it." Charlie and Lucy spent a lot of time during their retirement traveling the countryside in their R.V. Many vacations were spent with Harold and Evie Miller going to places like Cape Hatteras, Gulf of Mexico, and the Upper Peninsula. They also took the grandkids on a trip each summer and they each went on their own trip with grandma and grandpa after they turned 13.
Charlie is survived by his wife Lucy Huber; sons Carl (Lisa) Huber, Robert (Nancy) Huber; a daughter, Maryann (Ron) Houseweart, all of Monroe; grandchildren, Stefanie of Rhinelander, Chet (Brandy) Hanson of Roseboro, N.C., Wendy and Logan of Monroe, Tabitha of Hubbard, IA, Joe (Katey) of Stevens Point, Robert of Monroe, and Nick of Blanchardville; one great-granddaughter, Charlie Hanson; sisters, Berniece (Delmar) Friedrichs of Stoughton, Marion (Stan) Pickett, and Delores Bechtolt, both of Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at Grace Lutheran Church, 1025 15th. Avenue, Monroe, with Rev. John Tabaka presiding. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10 A.M. until the time of service with a luncheon to follow in fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in Charlie's name to Monroe Clinic Hospice.
