MONTICELLO - Barbara Faye Hammerly, age 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 29, 2012. She was born on February 11, 1928 to her parents Merrill and Faye (Brobst) Milks. She was raised as a child in Brodhead, and then lived in Monticello from the age of seventeen. Barbara taught school for over thirty years starting in country schools and later the Monroe and Monticello School Districts. She was a remarkable lady and will be fondly remembered for her sharp wit. Barbara enjoyed bringing her family together and relished cooking for them. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, was a crossword aficionado, and loved her dachshund companions.

Barbara is survived by her daughter Heidi Waddell, grandchildren Sadie Hagmann, Kate (Shawn) Hau, Colleen (Allen) Comstock, Susan, Casper, Mackenzie, Peter, Robert, Whitney, and Kelsey. She is further survived by great-grandchildren Eva, Eli, Aiden, and Carlin, a sister Margaret Grendahl, and a brother Joe (Esther) Milks.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Merritt and James Milks, sister Marilyn Milks, and a son Ralph "Rick" Hammerly Jr.

Per Barbara's wishes no services will be held.

A memorial fund has been established to support animal rescue organizations.
