MONROE - Several activities are being planned to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
The Green County Family YMCA will host a Run Before You Crawl 5K event beginning at 9 a.m., Saturday, March 12. A kids run will begin at 8:30 a.m. The event is open to all levels and abilities. For more information, contact Chad Shelton at the YMCA at 325-2003.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Monroe Public Library will host leprechaun-themed crafts and stories.
The fourth annual Flanagan's Shenanigans Celtic Pub Crawl will begin at 1 p.m. at the Friendly Inn. From 2 to 6 p.m., Irish band "Whiskey of the Damned" will perform at Turner Hall.
People or pet food donations are being accepted at registration to benefit the Green County Food Pantry and Everyone Needs a Home. This year the tavern league has teamed up with the Green County EMS to offer safe rides. Participants can register for the pub crawl at participating pubs or Heartland Graphics.
At 5:17 p.m., March 17, the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade will be held around the Square. The parade is sponsored by Monroe Main Street. This year's theme is "The Great Leprechaun March." Parade-goers are encouraged to dress in their leprechaun costumes. Prizes will be awarded; judging starts at 4:15 p.m.
