DARLINGTON - Ryan Schmitt competed and placed first in the FFA Tractor Operators Contest from Section Five. The contest was held at the Agricultural Research farm.

The contest consisted of four parts - the first part was driving and backing a tractor and two wheel implement through a maze consisting of poles with golf balls on top of them. Each participant had five minutes to complete the course.

The second part, similar to the first, was to drive a tractor and four wheel implement through a maze of poles with golf balls. Participants had five minutes to complete the course.

The third part of the contest was completing a written test, and the fourth part was a practicum contest of finding 10 things wrong with a tractor, such as missing an SMV emblem or being low in fluids.

For placing first in the contest, Schmitt now will have the opportunity to compete at the Wisconsin FFA Tractor Operators Contest, which will be held on Aug. 12 at the Farm Technology Days near Plover.
