To the Editor:
This year’s election includes a decision on who will serve us for the next two years in the state legislature. Our current representative is running for another office, giving us a fresh start in this open seat. I hope readers will choose an Assemblyman who has built something, met his payroll, created innovative products, and learned the consequences of mistakes.
My vote will be going to Jon Aleckson. He is a husband, father, and grandfather who has lived his whole life in Wisconsin. He and his wife Mary live on 17 acres in the Town of Springdale. He is newcomer with a fresh set of ideas that borrows from both political parties. Aleckson founded and led Web Courseworks, an educational software company, for decades. He balanced budgets, created jobs, and delivered results. He later taught as an adjunct professor at UW–Platteville and holds a Ph.D. in educational leadership from UW–Madison. He also serves on the board of a Middleton Free Clinic.
Madison is full of people who know bureaucracy. Jon knows production. He has promised to serve only a short time, solve real problems, and leave. That is the opposite of the usual career politician’s path. In fact, he’s proposing some fresh ideas, including a property tax freeze for seniors living on a limited budget in these difficult times. He also is seeking ways for farmers to buy cheaper and comprehensive health insurance and for young people to afford their first homes.
The 50th District — which includes Green County and southwestern Dane — is made of farms, small towns, and families who work for a living. They do not need more government experience. They need someone who understands what it takes to keep a business alive when costs rise and rules pile up.
I support Jon Aleckson for Assembly because outsiders with real-world experience are rarer than they should be. VOTE November 3 and send JON ALECKSON to Madison.
