Record-setting snow

Somehow, it makes me feel just a little bit better about the cascade of snowstorms this winter to know that a record has been set.

With the overnight storm that barked more than it bit, Monroe has surpassed the memorable 1978-79 winter season as the snowiest for as long as such records have been kept. The 3 inches of snow put Monroe at 71.3 inches for the 2007-08 winter season. The record from 1978-79 was 70.15 inches of snow.

So, now that the record has been reached, all of the snow will, right?

A guy can dream.

WEATHER OR NOT?

There are few assignments that strike dread in a reporters and photographers heart more than the weather assignment. News stories about the weather can be interesting, but usually theyre not. Especially during a winter like the one weve had this year, theres only so many creative ways to say its snowing hard outside, schools are closed and people are busy digging out with their shovels and sliding into ditches with their cars.

But the weather is news, whether we like it or not. So while I hope weve written our last snow weather story of the season, well be ready to do another one if need be.
