ARGYLE - The Argyle boys basketball team enjoyed a big first quarter, labored through a rough second quarter, then hung on for a 58-55 victory over winless Belmont in non-conference action.
The Orioles opened an 18-2 lead and led 20-9 after the first quarter before the Braves outscored the Orioles 17-7 to pull within 27-26 entering halftime.
"We couldn't miss a shot (in the first quarter)" Argyle coach Brandon Bakken said, adding that in the second quarter, "We forgot what we did to get those open looks."
Belmont led 42-41 entering the fourth quarter, but the Orioles outscored the Braves 17-13 to win it.
Sophomore Alec Treuthardt scored 13 points, sophomore Christopher Swenson had 11 and senior Kyle Zwicker added 10 for Argyle (2-5).
"I was proud that the guys were able to pull through and get a win," Bakken said. "It would've been a heartbreaker to lose after having a big lead."
