Teams sought for volleyball tournament

The Monroe Parks and Recreation department is seeking teams for its Coed Winter Volleyball Tournament at Monroe High School on Saturday, Feb 4.

The entry fee is $75 and includes pool play in the morning and a single-elimination tournament in the afternoon. Entry forms are available at the Parks and Rec office, 1110 18th Ave.

Avalanche U-10 girls cruise

Anika Einbeck scored eight seconds into the game to start the Monroe Avalanche U-10 girls hockey team on its way to a 10-0 rout of Stoughton on Dec. 30.

Einbeck, Haley Knauf and Alyssa Knauf each recorded a hat trick for the Avalanche, and Ally Einbeck recorded her first shutout.

Brodhead's Malkow wins title

Brodhead Wrestling Group's Brady Malkow (85 pounds) won three matches to capture a championship in the grades kindergarten-second grade division at the Darlington Redbirds Hackett Memorial Classic on Dec. 31.

Also in the K-2 division, Brodhead's Marcus McIntyre (43 pounds) Jacob Arnsmeier (64 pounds), Cole Hoesly (65 pounds) and Aaron Makos (72 pounds) posted runner-up finishes. In the grades 3-4 division, Brayden Erb (53 pounds) was second while in grades 7-8, Tyler Hoesly (110 pounds) finished second.
