WIOTA - Ridgeway stunned Wiota 2-1 in a first-round Home Talent League Western Section playoff game on Sunday.
Wiota entered the ninth inning trailing 2-0. Wiota's Aaron Lancaster singled and Merrill Brunson doubled. Jeff Solberg followed that with an RBI single.
However, the threat was thwarted when Brock Bidlingmaier hit a line drive that turned into a double play at second base, as the runner had a walking lead.
"He had no chance to get back," Wiota manager Dick Schliem said. "It was disappointing because I thought we had the home field advantage."
It was a pitcher's duel throughout.
Wiota didn't have a runner in scoring position until the sixth and Ridgeway didn't have a runner in scoring position until the seventh. Bidlingmaier pitched nine innings and he gave up two earned runs on seven hits. He struck out five and walked eight.
Brunson was 2 for 4 at the plate to lead Wiota.
