MENOMONIE — Monroe graduate Lindsay Leuzinger was nominated for the Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week for Aug. 26 to Sept. 1.
Leuzinger and the UW-Stout women’s tennis team had three matches in the Rams Invitational at Cornell College Aug. 31 to Sept. 1, where they went 1-2.
Leuzinger played No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles in a 7-0 loss to Edgewood. With partner Aspen Johnson, Leuzinger fell 6-2 in doubles. Solo, Leuzinger lost 6-0, 6-1.
The Blue Devils earned a 6-1 win over Beuna Vista University. Leuzinger and Johnson picked up a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 singles, Leuzinger won 4-6, 6-1, 10-5.
UW-Stout ended the Invite with a 6-1 loss to host Cornell. Leuzinger picked up the only victory for her team at No. 4 singles, winning 2-6, 6-4, 10-6. At No. 2 doubles, Leuzinger and Johnson fell 7-6(2).
Others nominated include Olivia Pethan (Oshkosh), Sydney Wiener (River Falls), Jordan Scharf (Stevens Point) and Cassie Lee (Whitewater).
Shelby Roth (La Crosse) claimed the honor. She earned a straight set victory (6-2, 6-2) over Gracie Ha of UW-Whitewater in UW-La Crosse’s 5-4 dual victory on Aug. 30. It marked UW-La Crosse’s first dual win over UW-Whitewater since a 6-3 victory on Oct. 7, 2006, snapping a 17-match losing streak to the Warhawks. It was also UW-Whitewater’s first WIAC dual loss since UW-La Crosse’s win in 2006. The Warhawks had won 102 consecutive conference duals.
