Ponies pound Miners

MONTICELLO - The Monticello boys basketball team rolled to a 60-28 rout of Shullsburg in the season opener Saturday.

The Ponies outscored the Miners 18-6 in the second quarter and led by 20 points at halftime.

Monticello senior guard Tyler Ritschard scored a game-high 22 points. Senior Corey McGowan and junior Lukas Kolasch each added 14 for the Ponies.

Beloit Turner 55, Albany 31

ALBANY - Beloit Turner raced out to a 12-0 first quarter lead and the Comets couldn't recover dropping the non-conference season opener.

Albany outscored Beloit Turner 10-8 in the second quarter, but the Comets trailed by 10 at halftime. Turner had a big third quarter outscoring the Comets 22-10 to seal the game.

Albany senior Josh Krueger scored a team-high eight points. Albany sophomore Tyler VanDusen scored six points. Freshman Isaiah Shell and junior Cody Schultz chipped in five points each.
