ST. PAUL - A Monroe youth curling club team captured the B division championship at the 23rd annual Kyle Satrom Memorial Junior Bonspiel Feb. 14.

Members of the Alpine team from Monroe were Michelle Loeffelholz (skip), Kieran Bazley (vice skip), Hunter Wild (second) and Henry Schluesche (lead). Isabel Bazley was the alternate but was unable to make the trip. The team is coached by Todd Schluesche.

The event receives national attention since some former winners have become members of U.S. Olympic and national teams, including John Shuster of the U.S. men's curling team. The Alpine team of Monroe received championship trophies, and it will be recognized on a plaque at the St. Paul Curling Club and be featured in the Curling News national publication.

The Monroe team won 17-0 over a St. Paul Curling Club team, scored a 12-3 win over Bemidji, stormed back from a 6-0 deficit against division favorite Hibbing to earn a 6-6 tie, and then beat a Mankato team 11-3. Monroe defeated Marriott of the St. Paul Curling Club 7-4 in the B division title game.
