Monroe Avalanche headed to state

MONROE - The Monroe Avalanche Bantam team - comprised or kids ages 12 to 14 - qualified this weekend to play in the 3A Bantam State Tournament in Tomah the weekend of March 6.

Friday night kicked off the state playoffs for Region 4 hockey. Monroe played against Baraboo in Verona and won 6-2. Jason Johnson scored a hat trick in the game, Daniel Gerhard had two goals and Eric Bush had one goal. Johnny Kallgren, Gerhard and Bush had three assists each. Johnson also had an assist in the game. Goalie Jess Hager had 18 saves.

On Saturday, the Bantams went up against Reedsburg in Oregon leaving with a 3-2 win. Johnson had two goals for the game and Kallgren had a goal. Assists were made by Johnny Page and Hager. Hager recorded 34 saves in the game.

On Sunday, Monroe faced off against Sauk Prairie and lost 8-3. Johnson scored two goals with an assist from Chase Hellenbrand. Gerhard made a goal assisted by Kallgren. Hager had 27 saves.
