Warbirds defeat Vikings in Belmont quad

BELMONT — Pecatonica-Argyle forfeited five weight classes in its 39-22 loss to Darlington-Black Hawk in the Belmont-Platteville quadrangular on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

The Vikings forfeited the first three weight classes before Levi Paust (220) scored with a pin of Riley Mosley. After another two forfeits — one from each team — Lukas Orloff (113) defeated Eli Aird by a 17-8 major decision.

The next three weight classes — 120, 126 and 132 — resulted in a double forfeit. Phillip McGowan (138) then gave the Warbirds three points with a narrow 11-9 decision over Will Doescher. Sammy Nelson (145) rallied for Pecatonica-Argyle with a pin of Isaac Crist in a three-period match that was eight seconds away from overtime.

The final two matches resulted in 12 points for the Warbirds with a 28-second pin from Eli Crist (152) and forfeit for Breylin Goebel (160).

Darlington-Black Hawk narrowly fell 42-38 to host Belmont-Platteville. Despite pins from Mosley (220), Aird (120), Breylin Goebel (160) and Maddox Goebel (170), the Warbirds gave the Braves 18 points from forfeits.

Pecatonica-Argyle also fell to Belmont-Platteville (48-23) and Riverdale (48-24). 

Paust (220) picked up two more wins, pinning both of his opponents in less than a minute. Orloff (106) also went 3-0 on the night with a pair of pins in the second period.

Aidan Gruenenfelder recorded a 20-5 technical fall in the Belmont-Platteville dual, while pinning his Riverdale opponent. Nelson (145, 152) received a forfeit against Riverdale and pinned the Brave’s Tyler Kisamore.
