2023-Softball-Tournament

MONROE — Coaches had their seeding meetings with the WIAA softball brackets being released on Sunday, May 14. The first round of regionals will be played Thursday, May 18, with the higher-seeded team hosting the lower-seeded team.

In Division 2, No. 3-seed Monroe will host fellow Badger West competitor, No. 6-seed Edgewood in the regional semifinals on Tuesday, May 23. The Cheesemakers (7-8 Badger West) defeated the Crusaders (5-9) in both contests, 7-4 and 8-7.

In Division 3, No. 8-seed Monticello-New Glarus hosts No. 9-seed Parkview. In their lone meeting of the season, the Vikings defeated the Ponies 11-9 in eight innings. The winner of this game advances to play No. 1-seed Brodhead in the regional semifinals. The Cardinals, currently ranked No. 2 in Division 3, have lost just one game this season — 2-1 to Turner in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off hit.

In Division 4, No. 9-seed Darlington travels to No. 8-seed Wisconsin Heights. The Redbirds and Vanguards met once during the regular season, which resulted in a 4-0 victory for Wisconsin Heights.

In Division 5, No. 9-seed Argyle faces No. 8-seed Benton-Shullsburg. The two teams met twice during the regular season. The first was during Darlington’s tournament on Saturday, April 15, which resulted in a convincing 18-3 win for the Zephyrs. On Thursday, May 11, the Orioles fell in a much closer 5-4 contest.

No. 5-seed Pecatonica travels to No. 4-seed Wauzeka-Steuben on Tuesday, May 23. The Hornets (12-6 overall, 10-2 Ridge & Valley) are second in their conference with two games left, while the Vikings (9-8 overall, 4-2 Six Rivers East) are second in their conference with two games left, too. As of print time, Pecatonica has won seven of its last nine games.

If Argyle and Pecatonica win out, they’d meet in the regional finals on Thursday, May 25.

Juda-Albany, the Six Rivers East Champion ranked No. 5 in Division 5, received the No. 3 seed. They will host the No. 6-seed Ithaca on Tuesday, May 23. They share a common opponent in Highland, where both teams lost. The Panthers fell 4-3, while the Bulldogs lost 10-5.

Juda-Albany could face either Argyle or Pecatonica in the sectional semifinal on Tuesday, May 30 if all teams win out.
