Ponies’ playoff ride ends in regional semis

RIO — Monticello was unable to contain Rio senior Emily Loging, as she scored 28 points in her team’s 55-47 regional semifinal victory on Friday, Feb. 25.

Senior Ellie Gustafson ended her basketball career with a double-double, recording 18 points and 16 rebounds. She was 6 of 7 at the free-throw line with a pair of 3-pointers. Dalana Trumpy also finished in double figures with 13 points. Jaden Zuber drained a pair of threes in her eight-point total. 

As the second-ranked 3-point shooter in Division 5 (39-for-80, 0.488), Zuber will participate in the 3-Point Challenge during the girls basketball state tournament on Saturday, March 11 at 9:30 a.m.

Monticello ended the season 14-8 overall, finishing in a three-way tie for third in the Six Rivers East Conference with Black Hawk and Pecatonica. Gustafson averaged a double-double this season, leading the team with 16.4 ppg and 11.4 rpg. Trumpy added with 14.9 ppg and 6.1 rpg.
