Pec, NG, Monticello out after first round losses

BARNEVELD — The Vikings couldn’t find any offense to keep their season alive. Pecatonica bowed out of the WIAA Division 5 playoffs in the opening round with a 14-0 loss to Barneveld May 16.

Lexi McSherry gave up four runs on five walks and two hits in two innings, and reliever Tessa Green was rocked four 10 runs (six earned) on 10 hits and a walk in the third and fourth innings.

Pecatonica had just three hits against Barneveld starting pitcher Grace Gordon, who walked three and struck out six.

Barneveld opened the scoring with a four-run second inning, and tacked on five runs in both the third and fourth to put the game away. Pecatonica committed four errors.


Boscobel 12, New Glarus 2

BOSCOBEL — Faith Bump had two hits and Zoe Moen drove in both Glarner Knight runs, but the Bulldogs knocked New Glarus out of the WIAA Division 4 playoffs May 16.

Bump led off the game with a single on the second pitch she saw, but was left stranded on second. Boscobel scored two runs in the bottom of the first and three more in the third to make it 5-0.

Moen doubled home Shealyn Klosterman-Havens with nobody out in the fourth, but Boscobel put up a five-spot in the bottom of the fifth to put the Knights’ season on the brink. Bump led off the sixth with a triple and scored on Moen’s groundout. Boscobel walked off in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs to force the mercy rule.

In other area action, Monticello was knocked out of the D4 playoffs with a 6-4 loss to Southwestern May 16.
