FALL RIVER — Despite their best efforts, the Warriors (9-17, 5-7 Six Rivers East) fell to the top-seeded Pirates (24-3, 13-1 Trailways West) in the WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal on Friday, March 3.
“We started off the game well,” Black Hawk head coach Trent Wyssbrod said. “We just had too many turnovers.”
Three Warriors finished the game in double figures, led by Seth Dunlavey with 14 points, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. Eli Schliem, who make significant contributions late in the season, tallied 11 points, followed by Andrew Figi with 10 points. The trio accounted for all three of Black Hawks baskets beyond the arc.
Black Hawk’s season ebbed and flowed, as the Warriors started the season 2-2. They then went on an eight-game losing streak, which they snapped with a 48-42 victory over Albany. The win sparked a 4-1 run where the Warriors defeated Belmont, Monticello and Juda. The Warriors ended their season with revenge wins against Argyle (54-41) and Pecatonica (58-55).
The team graduates three seniors in Lucas Milz, Jovanny Erickson and Dunlavey. However, the team will return six juniors next season.
