Rock Valley Conference Golf Mini Meet at Monroe
The Monroe Cheesemakers and the East Troy Trojans tied for first place at the Rock Valley conference mini-meet at Monroe Country Club on April 15. Both teams fired a 36 over par 172. Delavan-Darien was third with a 50 par 186, Whitewater fourth with at 53 over 189, and Jefferson fifth with 98 over par 234.
Hunter Rendon of Delavan-Darien was the medalist with a five over par 39. The top golfers for Monroe were senior Brady Spotts with a seven over 41. Junior Brock Brandli also fired a seven over 41. Both were good for third place. Junior Brody Koehn was fifth with an eight over par 42.
Monroe head coach Braden Rindy said the greens were fast and the wind was strong. Monroe competed in another mini-meet on April 17 at Alpine Valley resort.
New Glarus Hosts Golf Mini-Meet At Edelweiss Country Club
New Glarus hosted a mini-meet at Edelweiss Chalet Country Club on a windy day on April 14. Cambridge won the meet with a 34 over par 178. Monticello-Belleville was second with a 37 over par 181. The top golfer for Monticello-Belleville was sophomore Tanner Hilliard, who finished second with a five over par 41. Senior Evan Thomas of Monticello-Belleville was third with a seven over par 43. The top golfer for New Glarus was senior Clayton Streiff, who finished fourth in the overall competition. Streiff fired an eight over par 44. Also for New Glarus, senior Lance Brecklin was eighth with a nine over par 45. Junior Isaac Ingwell tied for eighth with a nine over par 34. Senior Jackson Erstad of New Glarus was No. 32 as he shot a 16 over par 52. Senior Simon Zimmerman was No. 38 after he fired a 19 over par 55.
New Glarus takes a break from conference play to participate in the Blue Jay Invite with a Ryder Cup format on April 23.
Argyle-Pec 2nd At SWAL Meet
The Argyle-Pecatonica golf team started the season on a strong showing placing second at the SWAL Conference Golf Meet held at Hickory Grove Golf Course in Fennimore on April 14. Argyle-Pec shot a team score of 171. Darlington finished in 5th place with 185. The top golfer for Darlington was Olin Johnson with a four over par 40. Mineral Point won the meet with a 165. Senior Alex Ruetten and sophomore Avari Steiner of Argyle-Pec each shot a two over par 38 to lead the team.
“I’m not sure I’ve seen the wind blow as hard as it did for a golf event. I thought if anyone in the field broke 45 it was a solid score with the wind howling like it was,” Argyle-Pec coach Chuck Chandler said.
Argyle-Pec will be competing in the Platteville Invitational on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
