MONROE — With a 4-3 victory over Edgerton on Tuesday, Sept. 17, Monroe set a new program-best wins under head coach Matt Bordner. The Cheesemakers are now 11-9 overall and 3-0 in conference.

Monroe and Edgerton had faced off earlier in their season opening invite at East Troy. There, the Cheesemakers crushed the Crimson Tide 6-1. In just under a month, both teams made adjustments.

At No. 1 singles, Adeline Eckerman and Hailey Wileman faced off in a three-set match in August. On Tuesday, Eckerman defeated Wileman in just two sets.

“We had a good game plan going into it, and Addy did a nice job of executing it,” Bordner said. “She’s orchestrating more strategic points and continues to battle really well for us at the No. 1 slot.”

Ryann Dahlman continued her strong season with a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles.

In a slightly different match up from August, No. 1 doubles Layla Pallesen and Rylee Svendsen improved over the course of the match to win in straight sets.

“Layla and Rylee picked up probably their biggest win of the season in an impressive two-set victory,” Bordner said. “The second set was great as they loosened up and really got aggressive with their approaching and net play.”

No. 2 doubles Alexis Gertsch and Brinley Roidt picked up the final point for the win.

No. 3 singles Jade Tran went three sets with her opponent, Vanessa Hernandez.

No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles lost in straight sets.

The match was also a chance to celebrate the team’s three seniors, Allie Adrian, Ada Lehto and Roidt. Adrian and Lehto worked their way through the program, while Roidt joined this year.

“(Ada and Allie) have spent years at the JV level developing before becoming nice varsity contributors this year,” Bordner said. “Brinley has made a fast transition into tennis after switching from volleyball and really has been a natural at the sport.”

Monroe hosted Delavan-Darien in another Rock Valley contest Thursday, Sept. 19. It was originally schedule as an away match. Results from that match will be in the Wednesday, Sept. 25 edition of the paper.
