MONROE — The Cheesemakers scored their first varsity football win at Badger State Ethanol Stadium with a 35-0 thumping of Fort Atkinson on Sept. 11 in Week 4.

The offensive line opened large running lanes, and the defensive front kept the Blackhawks from finding a rhythm on offense. Tristen Anderson led Monroe with 194 yards rushing on just 16 carries (12.1 ypc), and scored four touchdowns for Monroe. The Cheesemakers led 28-0 at halftime and scored the fifth touchdown in the third quarter, starting the mercy rule running clock.

Anderson scored his first touchdown with a 1-yard plunge at the 6:54 mark of the first quarter, capping a 35-yard drive. Right as Fort Atkinson looked ready to potentially tie it up, the Cheesemakers picked off a pass just in front of the end zone and had to start their next drive at their own two. Monroe marched 96 yards down the field, but turned the ball over on downs at the Fort Atkinson 2.

With 8:11 left in the second quarter, Anderson punched in his second score of the day on a 38-yard scamper. Just over four minutes later, he added his third score of the game, and added his fourth score with just 46 seconds left in the half on a 14-yard run.

Anderson also had Monroe’s lone reception on the day, a 28-yard grab from QB Ryan Roelli. Monroe pounded out 340 yards rushing as a team, with Gage Jelle (47 yards), Dilon Sweeney (39 yards) and Jace Riese (37 yards) balancing out much of the remaining carries. Riese scored Monroe’s other touchdown.

Fort Atkinson QB Jordan Mbow was just 9 of 25 passing for 106 yards with two INTs. The Blackhawks had 72 yards rushing as well for a total of 178 offensive yards.

In Week 5, the Cheesemakers (1-3, 1-1 Badger Small) will ride the bus to McFarland (1-3, 1-1). Monroe returns home on Sept. 25 to host ninth-ranked Edgewood (3-1, 2-0) in Week 6.

Iowa-Grant 56, Black Hawk/Warren 32

WARREN — The eighth-ranked Warriors took one on the chin in Week 4, falling to the Panthers at Meridian Park on Sept. 11.

“Give credit to Iowa-Grant. They out played us in almost every area,” BHW coach Desie Breadon said. “I’ll definitely take the blame for the loss, because we weren’t mentally ready to play.”

The Warriors defense gave up 387 yards to Iowa-Grant, including 272 through the air. QB Brock Hinderman was 25-for-35 passing with three touchdowns and two interceptions. He added 60 yards rushing and three more TDs on the ground, while Cole Schauff had 55 yards on 12 carries with two scores.

Iowa-Grant scored eight total touchdowns, and converted four two-point conversions. Black Hawk/Warren, meanwhile, scored five touchdowns but made just one of their two-point tries.

“One of the huge things in the game was that they made their two-point conversions and we didn’t. Even if we had been making ours and they had made theirs it would have been a one score game late in the fourth, but instead it was 48-32. You can’t win games when you don’t convert and you let them convert,” Breadon said.

IG led by 20 in the second quarter, and went into the fourth leading 48-20.

BHW QB Beau Podnar was 2-for-2 passing for 59 yards and a TD — a 45-yard strike to Trent Bidlingmaier. Podnar added 107 yards and two scores with his legs; he also had a 65-yard pick-6 on defense. Dax Paquin led the Warriors with 141 yards rushing and a score. Brody Argall chipped in with another 43 yards on the ground and an interception on defense. BHW had 345 yards of offense.

“We have to get more consistent on defense,” Breadon said. “We also need to get back to playing with passion and being the team delivering the blow. We didn’t play our type of football Friday and it showed on the scoreboard. We need to get back to that if we want to start accomplishing our goals. We can’t treat it like the sky is falling, but we do need to get a sense of urgency.”

He noted that during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, BHW was 6-3 in the regular season and advanced to Level 3 of the playoffs.

“So it is possible, but we all need to rededicate in practice,” Breadon said.

BHW (2-2, 1-1 Six Rivers) travel to Seneca/Wauzeka-Steuben (1-3, 0-2) in Week 5.

Parkview-Albany 29, Dodgeland 12

DODGELAND — The Vikings (1-3, 1-1 Trailways) picked up their first win of the season in Week 4 thanks to some brilliant defense and strong play from backup QB Connor Knutson, who started under center for the first time this season.

PA’s defense intercepted five passes and recovered three fumbles. Two of those turners went for immediate points — Louis Nath had a pick-6 and Peter Roth had an 18-yard fumble recovery for a score. Nath and Knutson each had two INTs, while Sawyer Carr added another. Cohen Williams and Owen Moffitt had fumble recoveries for PA. Kase Hazeltine led the squad with 14 tackles in the game, with three others reaching double digits in total tackles: Carr (11), Roth (11) and John Grenawalt (10).

On offense, Knutson was 11 of 20 passing for 187 yards and a score. He added another 29 yards on the ground. Grenawalt had 27 rushing yards and a TD on five totes. Nath had a team-high 41 yards rushing and added six catches for 107 yards and a score.

Dodgeland drops to 0-4 with the loss.

Parkview-Albany hosts Fall River/Rio (2-2, 1-1) in Week 5.

Belleville 35, Markesan 6

BELLEVILLE — The Wildcats (3-1, 2-0 Eastern Suburban) dominated Markesan (2-2, 0-2) in Week 4.

QB Rayden Taylor was 10-for-11 passing for 155 yards and a TD through the air, and added a game-high 94 yards on the ground on 14 carries with another score. Jackson Fahey tallied 73 yards rushing and three TDs as well for Belleville. Max McCluskey had two grabs for 45 yards and a score.

In all, the Wildcats had 321 yards of offense while holding the Hornets to 165 yards — all of which came on the ground.

In Week 5, the Wildcats travel to Horicon/Hustisford (0-4, 0-2).

Prairie du Chien 41, Brodhead-Juda 12

BRODHEAD — The Blackhawks had 287 yards of offense, including 236 on the ground as they moved to 3-1 overall on the season.

Payton Beinborn had 81 yards rushing and a score, while Darian Jackson finished with 75 yards and TD.

Brodhead-Juda (0-4, 0-2 SWC) will continue to seek out the first win of the season in Week 5 as Lancaster (0-4, 0-2) comes to town.
