BELOIT - Freshman Emily Benzschawel and junior Payton Noble each scored two goals to power the Monroe High School girls soccer team to a 7-1 nonconference win over Beloit Memorial on Monday.

Benzschawel scored her first goal on an assist from sophomore Reily Pond at 1 minute, 33 seconds. Senior teammate Maddie Kallgren then scored on a free kick at 23:45 to give the Cheesemakers a 2-0 lead at the half.

Kallgren and Pond each scored one goal and had two assists.

The Cheesemakers (6-1) erupted for five goals in the second half.

"We talked at halftime about how we were not really connected in the first half," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "In the second half, they were making good runs, and there were really nice combinations. It all came together. It's really nice when you see all of these players making the most of their opportunities and getting the ball in the back of the net."

Benzschawel scored her second goal off a corner kick from Kallgren. The Cheesemakers scored three goals off of corner kicks and free kicks.

"You work on those set plays in practice and a lot of times in games they seem like they are missed opportunities," O'Neill said. "It's nice to see them scoring off their corner and free kicks."

Monroe sophomore Brynn Ritschard scored a goal at 57:03 on a pass from sophomore Olivia Werth to give the Cheesemakers a 4-0 lead.

Noble scored her first goal on an assist by Pond at 65:57. Pond scored a goal on a pass from Kallgren at 73:04 to give the Cheesemakers a 6-1 lead. Noble capped the scoring with a goal on a pass from Ritschard.
