MONROE - Cade Janecke scored the game-winning goal in a shootout and goaltender Heath Bear made it stand up as the Monroe Avalanche Squirt team won the consolation championship in the Avalanche Classic Squirt A and B Tournament at SLICE on Sunday.

Elmbrook (Ill.) took a 2-0 lead in the consolation championship game before the Avalanche's Travis Edmunds and Janecke both scored to tie the game. Elmbrook again went ahead 4-2, but Edmunds scored two straight goals - on assists from Alyssa Knauf and Janecke - to force the shootout.

Bear made 21 saves during regulation and then recorded the shootout victory.

On Saturday, the Avalanche lost 3-0 to Tomah in its opener, then defeated Stoughton 8-7 to reach the consolation final.

Bear made 29 saves against Tomah and 19 more vs. Stoughton. Edmunds and Tessa Janecke each scored two goals for Monroe while Anika Einbeck, Joe Wyss, Cade Janecke and Riley Jones added one each. Jones' goal provided the final winning margin.
