Howard Dale Matson, age 68, of Albany passed away on Monday, September 16, 2019, at William S. Middleton Veteran’s Hospital in Madison. He was born on October 12, 1950, the son of Harold and Betty (Peterson) Matson, in Medford, WI. Howard was a graduate of Medford High School, and was drafted after graduation during the Vietnam War. He proudly served in the US Army from 1970-1971.

Howard was a truck driver for many years, having worked for Heding Transport in Union Center, WI and Capital Warehouse in Deforest. He was a Teamsters member as well as a longtime member of the Tri-County Pullers. He was an avid truck and tractor pull fan; he would even watch pulling videos online before he went to bed. He also competed regularly in local pulls with his son, Jeff, and was able to attend the last events of the 2019 season.

Howard is survived by his mother, Betty, of Janesville; son, Jeff (Tammy) Matson of Albany; grandchildren, Kate and Kyle Rudolph, Michelle and Skylar Matson, Chase Slonicker, and Brady Matson; great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Aidan, and Jackson; and siblings, Irene Shadrick of Janesville, Roger Matson of Janesville, Ron Matson of Medford, Larry Matson of Eau Claire, and Bob (Dawn) Matson of Friendship.

He was preceded in death by his father, and his son, Scott Matson.

A Celebration of Howard’s Life will be held at the Albany American Legion on Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 12 NOON – 4PM.

A private family burial will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Albany with Pastor Dennis Perger officiating. Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home is serving the family. Condolences may be sent to the family at: shriner111.com.
