Dale LaVerne Schliem, age 86 of rural South Wayne, died Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 14, 1934 in South Wayne, the son of Lewis and Elizabeth (Peterson) Schliem. He graduated from Blackhawk High School in South Wayne. Dale married Doris F. Johnson on June 12, 1955 in Apple Grove Lutheran Church.

He was a mechanic for South Wayne Oil, Schliem’s 76, Monroe AMC and Jeep, Alphorn Ford, and Fairway Ford. Dale was a member of Apple Grove Lutheran Church, Lafayette Electric Board for 9 years, SWTC Board for 10 years, Argyle School Board, Church Board, and Representative for South Section Home Talent League.

He enjoyed playing Home Talent Baseball for many years, watching his children and grandchildren in all of their events, playing music with the Schliem/Peterson Orchestra, restoring old tractors and old cars with his sons and grandsons, umpiring, playing slow pitch, cards, traveling, NASCAR and for the last few years going to races at the Lafayette County Speedway.

He is survived by his wife, Doris of South Wayne; daughter, Pam (Mike) Rosebrook of Cedarville, IL; sons, Dennis (Laurel) Schliem of Monroe, Daryl (Karri) Schliem of Belgrade, MT, Randy (Janet) Schliem of Brodhead, and Timothy (Jodi) Schliem of South Wayne; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 2 more on the way, Dale’s comment was “Oh more babies”; 5 step-grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-great-grandchidren; brothers: Richard (Carol) Schliem of Woodford, Jerry (Carol) Schliem of Milton, WI, Terry Schliem of LasVegas, NV, Phillip (Lynne) Schliem of Bloomington, MN; sisters: Shirley DeNure of Monroe and Mary Lou (James) DeVoe of South Wayne; also international fellowship student/son, Gerardo Gareia Bartning and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Clifford Miller; and brothers: Steve and Lewis Schliem.

Services and burial will take place at Apple Grove Lutheran Church in Argyle at a later date. SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences may be sent to the family at: shriner111.com.
