MONROE - Due to a power outtage affecting our production facility, The Monroe Times' Wednesday, Oct. 17 edition was not able to be printed.
Times' newsroom staff writes, edits, designs and layouts local news and sports pages in our Monroe office each day. The majority of page production work is accomplished in the evening and late night hours, in advance of our early morning print deadline. Once completed, these pages are delivered electronically to our regional printing facility in Janesville to be printed. As an intermediate step, the completed pages are handled by a production team at the Janesville Gazette building in downtown Janesville. The power outtage early Wednesday morning occurred at this production location.
Once printed, newspapers are driven back to Monroe and outlying communities overnight, in order to reach area post offices in time for same-day delivery.
"We apologize for the inconvenience this power outtage has caused, and appreciate our readers' patience," Times' publisher and general manager Carl Hearing said. "This is an extremely unusual situation. In my 22 years here, there's only been one other time when papers did not get to customers on their publication day as scheduled." In that situation, during the blizzard of February 2011, newspapers were printed, but white-out conditions made delivery to Monroe impossible.
Times' subscribers will receive Wednesday's edition along with Thursday's edition. Single copies of Wednesday's edition will also be available at the Times office, 1065 4th Ave. West, Monroe, after Thursday.
