Record-low mortgage rates help fuel red-hot Sept. housing market

MADISON — As mortgage rates fell to their lowest level on record, the Wisconsin existing home market responded with record Sept. sales and robust price appreciation. 

The 30- year fixed-rate mortgage dropped to 2.89% in Sept., which pushed home sales up 18.1% compared to Sept. 2019, and increased the statewide median price 17.9% to $229,900.

The median price for Green County increased by 43.7% to $250,000 with home sales also increasing by 22.2%.

The home sales for Lafayette County increased by 112.5% with the median price staying the same.
