PLATTEVILLE - Myron Olson, manager at Chalet Cheese Co-op, has been named University of Wisconsin-Platteville's 2011 Outstanding Alumnus. Olson graduated from UW-Platteville in 1974 with a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics.
In 2000, Olson was named a Wisconsin Master Cheesemaker. He is also the only U.S. Master Cheesemaker certified in Limburger cheese, producing 700,000 pounds a year.
Olson has served as treasurer on the board of directors for the Southwest Wisconsin Cheesemakers Association; president of the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association; and secretary for the Foreign Type Cheesemakers Association. He has also donated to the UW-Platteville Foundation since 1987, with gifts to the Agriculture Development Fund, the Agriculture Business/Agriculture Economics Development Fund, and the Argyle High School Community Scholarship Fund.
He lives with his wife, Geri, and has two children and two grandchildren.
