GREEN COUNTY - The new 2012 Green County Barn Quilts Calendar is now available. The calendar, which costs $10, features a different barn quilt for each month, as well as fun facts and trivia about the family or barn at the featured location.
The Green County Barn Quilts Committee began producing a calendar three years ago, when there were about 50 quilts. The project has more than doubled in size, with this year's calendar listing 115 locations.
The quilt patterns themselves are painted on 8-foot by 8-foot wooden squares. They barn quilts have played a significant role in bringing tourists to Green County, according to Noreen Rueckert, Green County Tourism Director. Traditionally, some of the most common reasons for requests for visitor information were related to biking, cheese and brewery tours, lodging, and events, she said. Now barn quilts has moved onto that list - generating thousands of requests from all over the United States for the Green County Visitor Guide and Barn Quilt Map.
The calendars are available for sale at locations including das Baumhaus and Boomerang Bakery in downtown Monroe, Quilter's Compass in Monticello, and the UWEX office in the lower level of the Green County Justice Center.
