FREEPORT - Monroe Clinic is expanding its Freeport Clinic, 1301 S. Kiwanis Dr., this fall to make room for more specialty and primary care services. Construction started Sept. 24 and is scheduled to last until early December.
"With the growing need for access to primary and specialty care in Freeport, we now have 16 providers at Monroe Clinic's Freeport location," said Chris Reuber, Monroe Clinic practice director. "We need to ensure they have the space and technology to match their high standards of care."
With the implementation of electronic medical records, Monroe Clinic was able to provide 600 square feet of space to the project. "Some of the expansion space is an old patient medical record room that was floor-to-ceiling shelving with files," said Steve Borowski, director of facility services. "Now it can be used more efficiently for patients."
The total investment for design, construction and equipment is expected to be near $600,000.
The Freeport branch will remain open during construction.
In addition, the Freeport facility has several new staff members.
In September, Katherine Hernandez, MD, joined the primary care team as a full-time family practice physician. Additionally, specialty care is growing with the recent addition of Jonathan Swindle, DO, orthopedics, and future plans to offer urology in Freeport.
Cardiology, neurology, nephrology, behavioral health, otorhinolaryngology, orthopedics, endocrinology, minor procedures and physical therapy are the 10 specialties offered at Monroe Clinic-Freeport.
