JUDA - A two-story home received extensive damage in a fire reported at about 10:45 a.m. Friday at W2303 County K.

Homeowners Jeremy and Della Black weren't home at the time of the fire, Juda Fire Chief Steve Isely said. They couldn't be reached for comment.

Isely said a passing motorist saw the flames and contacted the fire department.

Flames and heavy smoke were visible on the east side of the house when firefighters arrived at the scene, Isely said. The fire started in the living room of the home and quickly spread, he added.

The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System was used to bring additional help to the scene. The Monroe; Brodhead; Rock City, Ill.; and Davis, Ill., fire departments assisted at the scene. Albany and Cedarville, Ill., firefighters assisted at the Juda Fire Department.

Isely said firefighters were on the scene for about two hours. He gave credit to the passing motorist for calling in the fire and the quick response of his department as reasons why the home wasn't a total loss.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
