MADISON - Rep. Howard Marklein, R-Spring Green, was appointed by Gov. Scott Walker to the Council on Financial Literacy.

The council is comprised of 25 individuals from state agencies, the finance industry, the State Legislature and various other stakeholders.

The goal of the Council on Financial Literacy, which is part of the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions, is to improve financial literacy among the citizens of Wisconsin. They also provide recommendations and resources to the Department of Financial Institutions and the governor's office.

The Council on Financial Literacy was created through executive order by Governor Walker in 2011.

Marklein, R-Spring Green, also announced that Sherri Hendrickson received a 2012 Governor's Financial Literacy Award.

Hendrickson is the personal finance instructor at Monroe High School.

"Ms. Hendrickson is an amazing asset for Monroe and southern Wisconsin. Her skills in the area of finance are invaluable to our state," Marklein said.

The Governor's Financial Literacy Awards are given out each year to individuals with significant knowledge on finance. This year, 12 awards were presented at a ceremony in the Governor's Conference Room.
