Employee insurance rates rise

MONROE - County employees will see an increase of about 8 percent in their monthly premiums after the Green County Board of Supervisors approved an increase Tuesday.

Insurance rates for families of full-time employees will increase from $1,738 per month to $1,877. The monthly rate for a single, full-time employee will increase from $706 per month to $762.

The county will continue to pay 90 percent of the monthly premium while employees pay 10 percent.

There are 194 families on the plan, and about 111 people on the single plan.

The increase takes effect April 1.

Insurance was the theme of Tuesday's meeting.

The board approved a contract for $692,199 with Auxiant to administer the county's self-insurance plan. Auxiant is a company that helps self-insured businesses and municipalities look for ways to save money for insurance.

This is the 20th year the county has worked with the company.

A representative from Auxiant, Mike Stollfus, said his company works with the county to help find lower costs for such things as medical bills and prescription drug costs.

Green County Clerk Mike Doyle said the county has been self-insured for about 20 years. He said the county is able to save money by self-insuring because it only has to pay for coverage and not the extra costs associated with insurance bills.
